Before You Begin Your Application

Don't start your application prematurely!

Pick a Program

The first step in the application process is not to start filling out an application. Rather, you need to select the program you are interested in.

Check the Department’s Specific Application Requirements

Then, make sure you have read the application requirements and the application deadlines for the program you are interested in. This site provides summary information to help you, but the most current, detailed and complete information is on the departmental web sites. Questions that you may have about the individual programs within a department, if not answered on their web site, may be directed to the department’s Student Services office.

Are You Eligible?

To be eligible for admission to graduate programs at Stanford, you must meet one of the following conditions:

Complete a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association;

- OR -

Complete an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a college or university of recognized standing. A list of international degree equivalencies can be found in the International Applicants section.

Note: Applicants in their final year of undergraduate study may be admitted on the condition that their bachelor’s degree is awarded before enrollment at Stanford.
